Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that his country fully supports the UAE’s hosting of the COP28 Conference of the Parties, which begins within weeks in Dubai.
During his meeting in Beijing with Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the UAE and Chairman-designate of the conference, Wang said that China is ready to maintain close communication and cooperation with the UAE, to ensure positive outcomes of the conference. He added that the two sides can work together to promote the construction of a fair and rational system of global climate "governance", with the aim of achieving win-win results.
The Chinese Foreign Minister touched on Beijing's view of green and sustainable development, saying that it is "an active and strong supporter in the field of confronting climate change."
Regarding bilateral relations, Wang said that "under the strategic direction of the leaders of the two countries, relations between China and the UAE have maintained the momentum of sound and stable development." He continued: "China wants to continue to understand and support the UAE on issues related to core interests, and push the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries to a higher level." On the other hand, the Chinese Foreign Minister congratulated the UAE on its joining the BRICS bloc, saying that this would provide new vitality for cooperation and prospects for the comprehensive strategic partnership between Beijing and Abu Dhabi. Wang said that China, as a comprehensive strategic partner of the UAE, is happy to see it playing a greater role in international and regional affairs.
